Design classic: Nomos Glashütte Tangente neomatik in platinum grey

Nomos Glashütte proves the timeless nature of its best-selling Tangente with a contemporary update in platinum grey

Watches & Jewellery 25 Feb 2022

If there’s one watch that sums up Nomos Glashütte, it’s the Tangente. The timepiece was among the first collections to leave its factory in 1992, and is the perfect representation of the brand’s distinctive aesthetic that has carved it a unique place in the industry. This is in large part due to clean, minimalist lines, with echoes of Bauhaus influences, that are resolutely German, and provide a stark counterpoint to the often heritage-influenced designs out of Switzerland. In the decades since, it has gone on to win multiple awards, and remains one of the watchmaker’s best-sellers.

Thirty years on, Nomos Glashütte is proving that the design is as contemporary as ever with a sleek new update in platinum grey. The colour is achieved by plating the dial with rhodium, which is also used on the elegant, slim hands. Rounding off the balanced dial is the small seconds hand at 6 o’clock, and large Arabic numerals in the stylised font typical of the collection.

Like most of the watchmaker’s creations, it has a gender-neutral appeal, and is available in a choice of 35 and 39mm for a comfortable fit on a variety of wrists. Meanwhile, it comes powered by Nomos Glashütte’s precise in-house automatic calibre DUW 3001, a thin movement that allows for the slender profile of the piece. This is viewable in all its glory through the sapphire-crystal case back, while for the first time the Tangente neomatik is also available with a completely covered steel back at a more affordable price point.
