Grand Stays

Golf fans rejoice. For those tired of clamoring for hotel space when visiting St Andrews and who like the idea of having a little slice of the town’s history for themselves, Hamilton Grand apartments could provide an elegant solution.

Hamilton Grand, hamiltongrand.co.ukA collection of 26 residences, the new properties are housed in what used to be Hamilton Hall, positioned right next to the Old Course – currently undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment by real estate group Kohler Co. Due for completion in summer, the two, three and four-bedroom lodgings are already for sale and promise elegant, masculine interiors, magnificent views across St Andrew’s Old Course, and a range of really useful additional benefits.

The building started life more than a century ago as the fashionable Grand Hotel. During the Second World War the building functioned as the training headquarters for the Royal Air Force and then, following the war, the University of St Andrews acquired the building as halls of residence.

The view from Hamilton Grand across the Old CourseHamilton Hall served the University for 56 years until its most recent incarnation as the most desirable address in golf. The Hamilton Grand building will be instantly recognisable to golf fans: it has provided a handsome backdrop to countless St Andrews tournaments. So it is a relief to know that the refurbishment is being done with sensitivity and respect.

All residents get automatic membership at The Duke’s, regarded as one of the premier heathland golf courses in the British Isles. Owners who spend more than six months a year living in Hamilton Grand are also eligible to apply for a Links Ticket, giving them access to the Old Course and the six other St Andrews Links Trust courses for an annual fee. Hamilton Grand residents can also enjoy membership at the excellent Kohler Waters Spa and access to the award-winning restaurants at the Old Course Hotel. More than that, they get to wake up every morning and enjoy what must be one of the most beautiful sights any golf fan can see – the sun coming up over the Old Course.

Price for apartments is on application, Hamilton Grand, St Andrews, Fife, hamiltongrand.co.uk.
